The Watonga Public Schools Band has been in existence since the
early 1900's. For many years the band rehearsed in a small room that
lies beneath the stage at our present middle school. |

Band members begin their musical instruction in the 5th grade.
After participation in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, these young
musicians are ready for membership in the Watonga High School Eagle
Band. |

The band performs at Watonga football games and presents concerts
at Christmas, Veteran's Day, and in the spring. |
|
The Watonga High School Band has been named the sweepstakes winner
(Outstanding Band in Parade) at the State Fair of Oklahoma Parade 14
times since 1985, and also at the homecoming parade of Oklahoma State
University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and Northwestern
Oklahoma State University. The band has also received many superior
ratings from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association in
field marching competition, concert band, and sight-reading contests. At
present the W.H.S. concert band has received a superior rating in sight
reading at OSSAA District contests for the last 24 years in a row. The
W.H.S. Band entertains at the annual Watonga Cheese Festival and has been
featured at the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts several times. The W.H.S. Band has also performed in concert at festivals in St. Louis,
Houston, Dallas, Branson, Kansas City, and San Antonio. |

The Watonga Middle School Band has been named Outstanding Jr. High
Band in various parades around the state, and has been named the Jr.
High Sweepstakes winner in concert band, solos, and ensemble at the Tri
State Music Festival in Enid. |

Individually, band members have also been
awarded trophies in various concert and marching band competitions. Many
Watonga Band members have been selected for area-wide honor bands over
the past several years. |

Several Watonga Band members have gone on to participate in college
band programs at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University,
Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Northwester Oklahoma State
University, Southern Nazarene University, Southeastern Oklahoma State
University, and Oklahoma City University. |
| The Band program at Watonga High School has been a source of pride for this community for many years. With the hard work and dedication of its members and supporters we hope it will continue to reflect its "Tradition of Excellence" for many years to come! |
